Project Management


Added more tasks to the Trello to mark everything that I have done, Starting to become harder to track what tasks I have done / are to be done due to some getting done before I planned to do them, this is due to needed things implemented to help develop or mechanics but I'm trying to keep as organised as possible.


UI Overhaul and other small adjustments


This week I decided that the UI was becoming a problem and that it needed to be overhauled to represent how far into development the project is, different elements of the UI received small tweaks while others had large re designs to become more enjoyable to use and easy to navigate. Here's the list of different tasks I got done during this week:

  • Player UI Design Tweaks

  • UI Interaction Bug Fixes

  • Ship Fuel Storage Upgrade

  • Ship Speed Upgrade

  • Ship Mineral Capacity Upgrade


I started working on different upgrades for the player, The ship upgrades were pretty easy to implement and only took about a day to get it all set up with UI elements working so the player can see the current statistic and what the upgraded statistic will be.


The UI got a big overhaul, a lot of tweaks to clean things up and a redesign on the buttons to tie in to the rest of the UI design, the main area that got a huge overhaul is the Stations menu where all the different sectors in the station have all been overhauled to give a more appropriate look that fits into the game theme, a major change is the Refinery menu, I spent a lot of time figuring out how to best lay it out and how to represent the minerals being refined, I'm happy with how it currently looks and the direction it is going. Nothing has set stone with it's design as I work through this next week.


Some current issues is that when the player is starting from the main menu the controller is struggling with letting the player set a destination for the ship and needs to double click for a response which I have yet to figure out why it is happening and a fix for it but it's something I plan to have sorted this week. Another bug is that when you exit the pause menu and resume the game UI interaction for other buttons seems to stop functioning, I am unsure why or how to fix it currently but it is also something I plan to have sorted by the end of the week.


Definitely feel like progress has slowed down this week as I have been overhauling the UI and making sure it all looks good and works well and as most major things are done I have more time to slow down and make sure things work without issue and feel good to play. Hopefully this coming week will be more productive as I plan on revisiting and tackling adding AI into the game where possible.
